Introduction Post: Chase Rodie

Hello everyone my name is Chase Rodie. This is my first semester here at UNR. I decided to take the Winter semester off because I am a member of the Air Force Reserves and I had a lot going on and that is why unfortunately I could not start last semester.

I am originally from Reno Nevada even though I have moved around quite a bit. I lived out in Illinois while my dad was overseas doing his time for the military. Working for the Air Force has made a positive impact on my life and they even pay for my tuition and books so why not? Growing up in Reno has been awesome. The cool thing about our area is that we live close to a lot of bigger places in California while also our city not having millions of people. Reno also is one of the fastest growing cities right now with big tech companies coming in and that brings a lot of opportunities for people here. And if you have ever lived in the Midwest like me you know that the humidity and heat there can often be unbearable I much rather prefer our high and dry climate because we can experience a full four seasons.

My hobbies include skiing, hanging out with my family, and camping. Anything outdoors I enjoy, every summer me and family go camping and go to lots of spots but Yosemite is a must see for anyone who has never been. Also I really enjoy hanging out with my family because you only get one so why not enjoy the time you have with them. Another one of my hobbies is most definitely skiing during the Winter. I have been to multiple ski resorts but Mt Rose and Heavenly definitely are my favorite. Skiing is a good way to get out of your house during a time of year that most people are in staying in their houses the most.

One of our focuses this year is food. There is no other food that is better than sushi. Depending on the place you go all you can eat sushi is a steal. You pay $20-$25 and you can eat 7 rolls. If you did not get all you can eat usually a roll on its own is $7 so with all you can eat you're paying $20 for $50 worth of food. Plus you get free appetizers and desert I see no cons unless you're somebody who is allergic to seafood. Also seafood and sushi is a good way for a lot of people to try something they have never ate before. Because of the number of different fish that are in seafood usually you will always end up eating something you have never had before and therefore experience new food that is tasty.

I look forward to working with all of you this semester because we all have different life experiences and different perspectives. In this time of our lives there is a lot of bias and people not wanting to hear from others so I am interested to hear what perspectives people have on different topics so I can learn something.

  1. Nice to meet you Chase! Skiing is one of my favorite sports too! I have not skied at Mt. Rose or Heavenly ski resorts, but you should definitely try out Park City in Utah. They have amazing slopes and attraction.

    1. The picture of "sushi" is actually called Gimbap. It is a Korean food that is very similar to sushi, the traditional ingredients in Gimbap is spinach, beef, radish, carrots, crab sticks, and eggs. You should definitely try Gimbap if you like sushi!

  4. Chase we share a love for skiing/snowboarding as well as camping. I recently tried raw Sushi and i just have to say it isn't for everybody. It happens to be more of an acquired taste like a fine wine... and i don't drink, lol. Thank you and your father for your service to this country.
    best wishes -Cameron K.
