Hey everyone, my name is Demitrique (Deh-me-trick), and I grew up in Reno Nevada. However over the past 5 years I have traveled whether it was for the Navy, or my current job, I have seen 4 other countries as well as seen 28 of the states here in the U.S.. This also isn’t my first time attending UNR, I went to school here back in 2012, and after financial situations would not allow me to continue my education I joined the navy, and I am happy to be back! While going to school, I work a full-time job at a company called Industrial Logistics Services (ILS). ILS is a contracting company for mechanical engineering, installation and moving of machines all over the U.S. as well as a few other countries we have recently done work in. I love my job and honestly its the whole reason I decided to come back to college. When I first attended UNR I had absolutely no idea what I wanted out of life let alone a career, this job solidified my goal of becoming a mechanical engineer. As far as hobbies, I have a few, I play guitar (multiple genres), I build custom furniture (started out as an idea to pay for my tuition, but I got carried away), and I paint in my spare time, all of this aside from the typical watching Netflix or playing video games. I have a dog named Tatertot, he’s a rescue I adopted from San Francisco, he has a gimp leg and seems to do just fine. Going back to other countries, while I was in the Navy I lived Yokosuka Japan for about 1 year. It was an amazing experience with memories I’ll happily take to my grave. For all the sushi lovers out there, I’ll be honest, most of the sushi in the United States is totally bland in comparison to what I’ve experienced in Tokyo as well as Sapporo(I’m not saying it sucks but Japan is the real deal). If you ever get the chance to live/travel to another country, do it! I’m currently saving up in hopes to take a trip over the summer to see the United Kingdom this summer, if anyone’s ever been please shoot me a message or something, I would love to hear about your experience! Overall, I have lived the rougher end of life seeing what career options are available without an education. I have done,at least in my opinion pretty well for someone my age, 25. However I didn’t realize until I worked without taking that extra step, how much I truly appreciate my education. So to all of my peers, stay in school, don’t give up, and remember it is only 4-5 years of your life. I have given up more then 5 years of my life just in the pursuit of being able to afford my education. As I said I’m happy to be back, see you in class!
