Hello! My name is Owen Baier and I am 18 years old. I was born in Edina, Minnesota but was raised and spent my enitre life in Las Vegas, Nevada. Before coming to UNR at the beginning of this semester I attend California State University, San Marcos where I was a biology major. After realizing that both the university and major were not right for me I left and came to Reno where I am now a journalism major. My dream job is to one day work for a magazine editoral in New York City as either a writer or public relations manager.
In my house I am the oldest of 3 children. I have a younger brother who is 16 and plays lacrosse and younger sister who is 13 and is a competitive cheerleader. For five years my sister I traveled together on a competitive cheer team know as The California Allstars. Competitive cheer was one of my all time favorite things I have ever done and allowed to me to see new places as and meet incredible people. In 2017 our team called Black Jacks was able to travel to the world summit of cheerleading held at the ESPN center in Orlando, Florida where we took home first place. During my sophmore year of high schools I become greatly interested in theatre and performance. This new passion led me to quit the world of competitive cheer and invest my time greatly into my schools theatre where I was able to take part in several large productions. One of my main passions that was discovered while doing was dance and choreography and hope to continue doing both on the side as I continue on in my life.
In my free time the number one thing I enjoy doing is spending time in the company of my friends. As someone who is a huge extrovert and enjoys excitment I love being around being people and going out and having a good time. However, if I do find time alone with myself I usually tend to watch movies or musicals or listen to music. My favorite genre of movies are comedies and theatrical based movies that usually contain random outburst of unnecessary song and dance. When it comes to music my interests are all over the place ranging anywhere from modern indie music to classics from the 50's and 60's.
Currently I work as a host at Ruths Chris Steak house inside the Silver Legacy Hotel. Although this resturant is known for its amazing (and insanely overpriced) food their menu differs greatly from my favorite kinds of food. If I had to chose I favorite food it would be a tough battle between Mexican and sushi. Even though I tend to stay away from the raw fish Japanese as well as Mexican foods contain amazing and complex flavors that I will never be opposed to going out for. Along with food comes my insane addiction to Dutch Bros Coffee where I can be found almost every day with a blended rebel in hand.
Thank you for reading!
