Introduction -Kiel Capada

Hi, my name is Dan Ezekiel Capada but I go by Kiel. When I was young, my family has always called me Kiel so it just stuck with me throughout elementary school, middle school, and so on. It is a unique name anyway and I like it a lot. I originally came from the Philippines but moved to the capital of Alaska (which is a small town called Juneau) when I was a little bit over one year old. I was raised there for about eleven years and then I made the transition from snow/rain year round to the dry desert in Las Vegas. I went to Rancho High School with the assumption that I was going to eventually work in the aviation field because they had a private pilot program as well as an aerospace engineering program there. I found out that I really enjoyed music and it was pretty much the reason I enjoyed going to school (other than the small high school romances haha). I am not a very good student. I am the type who would settle for D's only because I still passed. I am a bare minimum student. I have decided to try harder this semester and to aim for my very first 4.0 GPA in my education career. Crazy right?

With that being said, I decided to go to UNR to study music education. I play the trumpet and piano and would like to learn more because how am I supposed to teach kids to play if I don't know the instruments myself? My day pretty much consists of music with a little bit of core classes on the side. I am in marching band, pep band, concert winds, and jazz band. I am a part of an organization called NAfME which is particularly most helpful for music educators but anyone is welcome. You can pretty much find me in the Church Fine Arts building and then soon-to-be-open University of Arts Building. I am glad that I found out that I love music because I am always surrounded by music and amazing classmates as well as influential professors.

Other than all of that I am a pretty straight forward person. When I am not practicing, I am playing video games, eating, sleeping, or procrastinating. I am usually very friendly and enjoy talking to my friends and I am open to meeting new people. If you see me around campus, don't be shy and feel free to say hi, if you don't then its alright, I know that a lot of you don't care enough and it's completely understandable because I do that myself sometimes. I miss my family back in Las Vegas, especially my labradoodle, Cookie. Since this semester is all about food, my favorite kind of food will always be cheeseburgers, slowly clogging my arteries. I know that I can look annoyed or mad but I promise I am a genuinely nice person and I hope that some of you guys will say hi if you see me around campus!

  1. When you lived in Alaska how did you like it? My sister moved there with her ex-husband, and she hated it, but she also lived on the army base.

  2. Hey, Kiel! I'm Crissy, I was also from the Philippines too. My real name is Crisjoe and I'd say that we both have pretty unique names! My favorite cousin is in marching band too her name is Angie, I wonder if you know her? I'm also aiming for a 4.0 this semester too! Hopefully we both achieve our goal!!

  3. Hi Kiel, I find it super cool that you can play more than one instrument and that you are still striving to play more. I wish to play the piano, so if you have any tips for beginners shoot them my way please! good luck on your goal this semester!
