Hello everyone, My name is Cameron Kygar and I'm currently a second-semester Freshman at the University of Nevada, Reno. I have lived in the Reno, Sparks area my entire life and am happy to call this place my home. With so many fun adventures less than an hour away from my house, I became accustomed to the Tahoe local lifestyle. I have been a snowboarder since the age of four, ever since my dad first took me up to Sky Tavern in 2004. After that year I progressed to a larger mountain at Mt. Rose. My Dad and I would religiously make it up to the mountain every week and enjoy the natural beauty there was to witness. I never missed a year as I continued to progress and try new mountains with my friends.
I now have been a season pass holder at Northstar Ski resort for eight years. Now as a 19-year-old young adult I have claimed Northstar to be my home Mountain. It takes a lot for me to call something home, but I like to say that I fell in love with this lifestyle of snowboarding because nothing else in the world brings me the same feeling. The snowy mountains with bluebird skies will always trump a sunny beach day in my book. The feeling of complete bliss and tranquility is caused by a few key components on the mountain. First and probably the most important is, who you surround yourself with. Having my closest friends with me to adventure the day where we can escape reality and all responsibilities are mind freeing. I enjoy taking deep breaths of the cold frosty air and exhaling all my worries and troubles when at the top of the mountain. This workout in snowboarding is more than just an exciting event for me. I use the snow and God's green earth as a form of meditation to keep my mind in line. With so many trials and tribulations throughout life, I will always need a peaceful state of mind and snowboarding is the one thing I can rely on for my personal well being.
I do have an amazingly supportive family who always has my back. This is something I have never taken for granted seeing as some people don't have loved ones to fall on. I am the middle child of three and could not be more thankful for this blessing of life I have been given. Each day is a gift with beautiful obstacles that I face with a positive attitude. So in the end, I will cherish this earth and all living beings that belong here. I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason and whether you decide to roll with the punches or get punched in the face you have to proceed with life and admire all the little pieces of beauty within. While I hold my loved ones close and work for my future I cherish every breath I take because before you know it tomorrow becomes yesterday.
