As most know, eating healthy can be costly. The idea of eating healthy can be different for most people, but it all comes down to whether or not you're giving your body what it needs, no more, no less. But this becomes especially hard when you're a full-time college student, studying, working, working out, etc. These are just a few suggestions in benefiting both your body and your wallet.

1) Whichever restaurant or cafe you decide to eat at, ensure that whatever you're getting consists of different colors. This means with whatever you get, throw in some veggies, fruits, all that good stuff so it doesn't look like rice and meat or something like that. Take a panda express meal with two entrees for example. You get a main (rice or noodle) and two entrees of your choice. Ensure that these entree's have more than just meat in it, so instead of something like orange chicken, order string bean chicken. Give it some color.

2) Avoid vending machines and little snack vendors. Most of the times, they're overpriced, charging a dollar or two for a pop-tart. Save as much as you can, and these vending machine snacks probably isn't the best for you.

3) We all love to eat out with our friends. Everyone does it but it's definitely not the best for your body. Next time you decide to grab a meal with some friends, try to go to a restaurant that has healthier options. By this, I mean instead of McDonald's or Taco Bell, try Port-Of-Subs or Five Guys, where the ingredients are much more fresh, more nutrients, and less fat. It will be more pricey, which leads us to the second part of this. Try to minimize eating out to a few times a week or if you can, once a week. The cost will add up over time without you even realizing it, and before you know it, you would've spent thousands a year on eating out, when you probably had food you could've eaten for free at home or at the cafe.

4) If you do end up finding yourself at a restaurant of some sort, remember that the most ideal option would be to get as much food for as little as possible. In that case, try looking for any specials or deals they have going on. These might not be the $15 steak or gourmet burger you want, but it'll be worth saving the few bucks because if you do eat out a lot, it will definitely help with saving money. Let's say you save $3 per meal when you eat out and you eat out five times a week. That's $15 you have to yourself so you can go out and get more food, get gas, etc.

5) Give intermittent fasting a try. It may seem weird skipping breakfast and it'll be hard the first few times. But what this allows you to do is to push your meals later on in the day, resulting in your body taking in less calories per day as to a breakfast and the rest of your meals. Start the day off with some coffee or some tea rather than oatmeal, eggs, toast. Intermittent fasting not only will help you spend less money on food, but pushing your meals off boosts focus and fat burning. This allows you to eat high-calorie meals later on in the day without having to worry about eating too much.

  1. I agree that if we eat out we should eat at healthier places. I find myself always grabbing fast food with my friends because it's easier but it is very unhealthy.
