How to eat when you’re on a budget.
First things first I don’t live on campus so I don’t eat at the Down under Café. So, I have to go to grocery shopping about twice a week and typically it cost me around a hundred to hundred and fifty dollars. My first tips are never go shopping hungry because then you’ll just be buying everything that looks good. Walking past Oreos, you’ll immediately want them. Walking past a box of doughnut you’ll think you’ll need them, but the reality is that you don’t, everything just looks good in that moment when you are hungry. It’s a very good idea to go into the grocery store with a plan. Make a list of the food that you’ll buy so you won’t end up buying more than you need so no food goes to waste. Along with that think of the food you’ll be wanting to cook so you have everything you need. My second tip is buying food that will last you and that won’t expire so quickly for example yes buying organic food is great but typically they don’t have a long shelf life. So, don’t be scared to get any canned food. They don’t bite, plus they have a long shelf life which makes them perfect. Those are great along with a bag of beans and rice. You can’t ever go wrong with those and that will last you for weeks and weeks to come. And they are very easy to make. Then after you purchase some of your staple ingredients like that you can purchase a few other ingredients to make dishes like a burrito! They are good and healthy if you make then just right obviously not fill them up with a crazy amount of cheese or else it won’t be as healthy. It’s good to make dishes that will make you full and that aren’t just junk food that will make you feel like crap. For example, just eating a bag of hot Cheetos and calling it good. My third tip I’d say is don’t waste so much of your money on just snacks those boxes of cheese its won’t last you the week if anything they last you an hour because some people can just finish those in the sitting. But if you are wanting to buy some snack stick with almonds or carrots because they are easier to pack and carry on the go along with that they are very healthy and nutritious you should. Four, it’s a good idea to meal prep that way you save money from buying out and you can make any healthy dish which can help with many other things like losing weight and saving time. Five, usually UNR does a lot of events here that involve food, obviously you cannot get a full course meal for free but you can Definity get some free snacks here and there and maybe a small meal so Definity take advantage of that so you don’t have to buy food at the Joe or anything like that.
I definitely agree with your tip on not shopping while hungry. I catch myself loading up the cart when I go grocery shopping while I'm hungry sometimes. I also agree with buying more healthier food than buying chips that doesn't necessarily fill you up.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we should not spend money on snacks since we tend to eat those really fast.
ReplyDeleteYou bring a good point with the shopping list. It is amazing how much of a difference that can make.
