Being born in Hawaii, I have grown up with eating a variety dishes that were considered mostly Asian cultured food. However, the food that I mostly grew up eating was called “spam musubi”. No matter the occasion or time of day I would eat almost every day because it was my favorite food. Back then, my parents would pick me up after I have finished school and drive to a gas station, mostly Seven-Eleven, to get snacks. When I walk into the gas station there would always be a couple of spam musubis sitting on the counter being kept warm by a hot lamp where the employee would be working the register. I would then pick up two of these great delicancies, which only costed about a dollar, so it was a total steal for me. On some days, when I’m at home I would make spam musubi myself since I couldn’t leave the house since I was very young at the time. My parents would show how to make the dish every time they would make until I knew how to make it by myself and since then then it has been ingrained into my head. On the special occasions, I would also eat spam musubi as well. During weddings, I remember at the parties there were always huge amounts food displayed on the tables. There were salads, steaks, sushi, deserts, fruit, and so much more. However, none of those foods caught my interest because I was only fixated with the spam musubi displayed. I would only a plate with spam musubi, which was probably unhealthy when I think about now. On my birthday, I wouldn’t even eat the actual birthday cake because I didn’t like cake back then, so I would just eat only the spam musubi and nothing else.
Recipe:
-4 sheets of nori (Seaweed)
-2 or 3 cups of rice (preferably white or brown rice)
-Soy sauce
-Rice cooker
-
Furikake Seasoning (optional)
- 1 Can of Spam
That sounds really good. I want to try and make it one day.
