Blog #4

I am from a small town in Nevada where there are maybe three or four pretty popular restaurants where the food is decent but after a while, you get tired of it because it is the same thing over and over again. There is always the option to go past my town and find a place to eat there but you don't want to do that every time you want something good to eat. The rest of my town is the typical fast food joints that are not all that great, to begin with. Like, Taco Bell, McDonald's, Super Burrito, Jack in the Box, etc.  So I wanted to interview someone that came from a bigger area where there are diverse places to eat and always had a new option to eat if they wanted it. I interviewed my friend from Vegas, Shelby, and my other friend from Reno, Taylor. I first started off talking to Shelby because she had lived the farthest.
Me: If you had to pick your go to fast food place in Vegas what would it be?
Shelby: I would probably go with In and Out. I know we have it in Reno but I love their burgers because they have a really thin patty and it is also really easy to get. Like, I don't have to out of my way to find one.
Me: Okay then what would you choose for your favourite sit down restaurant? Like somewhere you would go if you were on a date or a special occasion dinner?
Shelby: I would have to say Vic and Anothy's Stake House. It is a little more pricey so I have only been there three times but it is so good. And I also think since I cannot eat there that often because it is so pricy that makes the food even better because it is rare if I get to go.
Me: Where is your family originally from?
Shelby: We are kind of all over the place but the most we have in us is Italian.
Me: So since you guys come from an Italian background, is there a lot of Italian cooking going on at home or do you guys just eat whatever?
Shelby: If we go to my grandma's house there is for sure always some kind of Italian dish going on. It is never super fancy but there is always pasta or homemade pizza with real mozzarella or something like that. But at my house with my mom and dad, there can be some Italian dishes going on but it is not an every night kind of thing. I think it just depends on what is easiest to make that night.
Me: So your meals are not based around Italian dishes all the time?
Shelby: No, there will be one maybe twice a week but I think that is because those recipes are the ones my mom has memorized.
After I got all I needed from Shelby I went and talked to Taylor about the food she is surrounded by not only in her house but in the city she lives in.
Me: If there is one fast food joint in Reno you had to pick was your favourite what would it be?
Taylor: Oh jeez that is really hard for me to pick because I am for sure a fast food fan... Okay, I will go with Canes. I was going to say In and Out but everyone says that but I like Canes just as much.
Me: So then what would you say your favourite sit down restaurant is?
Taylor: I really really like The Cheese Cake Factory. They always have really good food and then after I get my favourite cheesecake which is the caramel one. It is so good.
Me: Do you get the same thing every time you go there food and cheesecake wise?
Taylor: I like to switch up what I get with my food so, I think the last time I was there I got the avocado eggrolls and then the next time I tried there three cheese pasta I think it was called. The way I like changing my food is going from one thing and then totally going to the opposite way the next time because I don't want to be the person that orders the same thing every time. But, with my cheesecake, I get the same thing every single time. I one time tried something different from my caramel one, it was a lime one and I did not like it and then I was pissed that I wasted my one slice of cheesecake on the stupid lime one.
There was not a huge different between Taylor and Shelby. Even though they live in different parts of Nevada their food choices aren't different but they do have different ways to think about food.

  1. I am also from a small town in Nevada so I know the feeling of having very few resturants, I hated it.

  2. The introduction is very good. There's a lot of material here and this is the most interesting post I've read.
