Blog 4 Introduction. My friend Garrett got to be the lucky one I chose to interview this evening. I recently met Garrett at the beginning of the year when I moved into the dorms. When I realized he lived two doors down from me in Nye we clicked and bonded over skating and sports. His super positive mindset met with my vibe and we hang out on the daily now. I have lived in Reno my whole life so his background of living in Vallejo, California was interesting to hear. Questions. 1.) How has the culture in Vallejo impacted your eating habits? Garret: "Well definitely a lot of barbeques so I have probably gained a lot more weight then I should have. Overall a lot of food diversity because of the different culture. I mean you're talking Philipino, Hawaiian, Kajian, and man jerk chicken which I miss most of all. Also great sushi, there is this spot out in Fairfield that you have to check out called "Sushi King"." 2.) what food in Reno can't compare to your home town? Garrett: "Something I dislike in Reno but love in California is definitely any kind of fish. You can't beat fresh fish off the boat on the coast. In reno, it has to travel for too long that it loses a lot of quality." 3.)How has your diet adapted to the dorm life at UNR? Garrett: "Most of the good eating habits my mom has instilled in me I have brought to D.C, For example at the salad bar I always get my greens in and a fruit of choice every day. However, the greasy and artificial food they serve nightly is hard to pass up when it's so easy and right in front of you." 4.)What is the best meal you can remember ever eating? Garrett: "Joe's Crab Shack hands down." 5.) Does your family cook much? Garrett: "My mom does all of the in house cooking on the nightly but occasionally my dad will get the grill running and whip up something good."

  1. I've never really thought of how sea food products has to travel far to be delivered here, which makes me wonder that if fish is delicious to me now, what if it's so much more better if I grew up in California having easy and fast access to fresh sea food?

  2. I totally agree with Garrett on my diet with the DC. My mom has always hounded me on eating fruits and vegetables so now I am a frequent flyer at the salad bar there.
