When I was younger my mom would usually cook for us during the weekdays. On the weekends however we would usually go out as a family to a sit down restaurant. One day my family and I decided to go to BJ's. This amazing restaurant serves some of the best dishes. One day I decided to get a Philly Cheese Steak. At first I was a little skeptic as I didn't know what it was and I didn't know if I would like it or not. I decided to get it and when I got my plate, my mouth immediately started water at the sight of the Philly. When I took my first bit, I felt like I was transported to a whole new world filled with every food that I love. I enjoyed it so much that I asked my mom if she could make me it sometime and she said yes. When she finally made it for me I loved the way she cooked the Philly Cheese Steak even more than BJ's, that I continually ask her to make it for me. This is one of my favorites because she always makes it for me and I love my mom.
Ingredients:
2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
2 green peppers, thinly sliced
2 red peppers, thinly sliced
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
Kosher salt
1 1/2 lb. sirloin steak, thinly sliced
Freshly ground black pepper
8 slices of provolone
4 hoagie rolls
Directions:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, heat 1 tablespoon oil. Add peppers and onion and season with salt. Cook, stirring often, until caramelized, 12 to 15 minutes.
- Remove onions and peppers from skillet and set aside. Add remaining tablespoon oil and cook steak until it has almost reached your preferred doneness, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Return veggies to skillet and toss to combine with steak. Blanket mixture with provolone and cook, covered, until the cheese is melted, about 3 minutes more. Divide mixture among hoagie rolls and serve.
- (If you want it even better add some nacho cheese to the Philly to make it even better)
