Blog 4

Hello my name is Hana Nozu I am from a small town in Nevada called Elko. I am half Japanese and half Mexican. For my interview I decided to interview my friend who is also Mexican but she was born and raised in Mexico, so I decided to see how the food culture is different from living in Mexico compared to the US.
Where are you from ?
Mexico City
Why did you move to America ?
I moved to America because my dad needed to find work.
What was your favorite meal in Mexico ?
My favorite meal was tamales.
Since you didn’t have a lot of money what were some cheap meals you ate ?
We ate potato soup with mushrooms we gathered in the mountains. We gathered and ate crickets. We hardly had meat, milk or bread because it was expensive. We always had beans and tortillas.
What was a meal you ate that was for a special occasion ?
Mole, tamales, lamb or pig
When you first came to America how was the food different ?
Everything was different the milk tasted very weird to us. We never had McDonald’s or frenchfries. We never had fast food
Do you prefer American food over Mexican ? Why or why not?
No I don’t. I like American food because there is different cultures like pizza is Italian but many Americans eat it. But Mexican food feels like home
How did growing up in Mexico and eating traditional food make you who you are today ?
I love to cook and my mom taught me how to make many Mexican dishes. It makes me appreciate good food and I am proud to be Mexican. It made me appreciate food because we didn’t have a lot of money so I never take food for granite.
