John Leland- Blog 2

Obtaining a cheap healthy diet as a college student is a little difficult but definitely doable.

The first thing I would like to talk about is meal planning. If you go into the Down under Cafe with a plan to eat healthy then you will be able to meet all your needs. There are very healthy options there every day, for example they always have something on the grill like hamburgers and chicken. Also there is a salad bar. One of my favorite sections of the DC is the home cook section. In that section there's things like lasagna and other home cooked dishes. The one thing that you have to remember if you are trying to eat healthy at the DC is to stay away from the dessert section. There are always really good treats there that are very tempting. However, if you go in with a good mindset then you are more than capable to eat healthy.

The next thing you have to remember is not to eat out a whole lot. That is where most of your money will be lost. Having a meal plan at school is the best way to go. Every meal plan gives you enough swipes a week so that you do not have to eat out. Also the meal plans give you money that you can use to eat at any food place on campus. One of my favorite places to go on campus is the Overlook. In the Overlook there are a lot of options. My favorites are the chineese place because they always have orange chicken, and there is a sandwich place in there that has chicken breast and it always comes with a salad.

Next I would like to talk about avoiding snack throughout the day. If you eat snacks in between your meals then that will make you eat less at the food places that you already have paid for like the DC or the Overlook. So at this point you would be spending money on snacks that are most likely not good for you. Eating at the DC will fill you up and if you eat all your meals there then you will be saving money and also getting your moneys worth that you have already spent.
