Introduction: Jasmine Ramirez

Hello everyone! My name is Jasmine Ramirez, but a lot of people just call me Jas. I’m a freshman here at the University of Nevada Reno. I’m studying to become an Elementary teacher with a minor in Spanish. I come from a really small town here in Nevada called Yerington. Where there is only one high school and one grocery store so as you can imagine how tiny is it. I am also the first in my family to get an education since my parents never passed middle school and none the less high school. So being able to graduate college will not only be my dream but my mother’s dream as well.
Some interesting facts I’d say about myself is that I love running and being active, my favorite thing to do is boxing. I am absolutely terrible at math which is tragic but I mean we all have our strengths and weakness. I have one sister who happens to be in the process of becoming a nun which is pretty cool yet weird at the same time. I am vegetarian and I love animals especially my dog, her name is Chiquita, and cows, something about them. I think that they are so cool. I had happened to be around them a lot while I grew up. My stepdad would take me as a young girl to go see them when they were still babies, since he had worked at a dairy. I instantly fell in love with them.

Out of school I love to just chill in my apartment and have just “me days” I guess you could say. Where I play loud music and take some time to paint whatever but my favorite things to paint are sunset or sunrises. Something about the natural colors in the sky and the clouds that surround them that I think are so beautiful. While painting I also take care of myself, like putting on a face mask and/or hair mask and just chill. But honestly this rarely happens because I’m a full-time student and I work full time as well so when I get time to just relax it’s a blessing in its self.

I’m also very involved in my church we do a lot of community service such as make goody bags and blankets for the homeless teenagers in the Reno area or donate whatever we can to the Eddy House. I also help set up events for the youth in my church for example we just recently went to a conference in California then after that we took the kids to Six Flags. Then this March we will be having a conference in LA. We are fundraising for that right now as we speak since me and five other adults will also be taking them to Disneyland right after so that’ll be expensive but I love going to these events and I always leave learning something new, overall great experience. Being able to help other people in any shape or form is something I really enjoy. Just that feeling you get knowing you’re making a difference is worth all the troubles.
