Introduction: Evan Roy

Hello my name is Evan Roy and I am a freshmen, majoring Kinesiology.

I am the second oldest out of four. I have two younger sisters and one older brother. My sisters are 13 and 16 and my brother is 21. Even though we are pretty far from each other we still are very close as a family. My mom is 8th grade teacher at a school called Woodbury Middle School. She has been teaching for about 20 years now and she has gone from teaching 5th grade, all the way up to 8th grade. My dad is a mechanic and he owns his own shop called Duaines Automotives. About a couple of months ago he bought the shop from the original owner because he was retiring and wanted someone who could handle his job so my dad was his best offer. My brother went to school here for the first year and a half and then he moved up to Montana where a lot of my family lives and just works. One of my sisters plays softball for her high school, so usually when I am down visiting, she usually has some sort of tournament going on to where we can go watch her play. My family has a huge part in my life and without them who knows where I would be today!

I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have lived there my entire life until moving up here to come to school. A lot of my mothers side of the family all moved up to Montana so every summer we take a family vacation up there and spend time with them. My dads side of the family is mainly all from California, but I do have a Aunt and Uncle who live in Seattle. In my house I have 4 dogs and 3 of them were from the same breed, and the other one we got a couple of years before them. Just this past Christmas my sisters got 2 guinea pigs, 1 each, so they are fairly new in my household. Right after a lot of my family moved up to Montana, my family was thinking about moving up there too, but we decided not to move and to just stay down in Vegas. Plus, it is always fun to visit them in the summer because Montana is amazing during the summer, so it is always a good time.

One hobby of mine, is that I love to play basketball. As a kid I played all sports and I really did not know which one I liked the best. But around 9 or 10 I decided that basketball was for me. I was pretty tall for my age and I still am. I am just under 6'4'', so you could say I am tall! My brother was taller than me throughout high school because he hit his growth spurt very early and I did not hit mine till my Sophomore year. But when my brother graduated from high school and came up to Reno to go to school, that is really when I hit mine. I am now 4 inches taller than him and I am still growing. Since I am tall I love playing basketball, but my brother is also a huge basketball fan and he is the one who really got me into basketball. I go to the gym here about 3-4 times a week and just play. Basketball has definitely gotten me through tough times and I am thankful for that.

I choose Kinesiology because I am a huge sports fan and I would love to work for a professional team in the future. I also enjoy learning about the body and how it works.

English should be fun this semester, and I can't wait to see what is in store.

  1. Hi Evan,
My name is Victor Belen and I loved reading all about you. I also came from Las Vegas before coming to the University. But unlike you, I have not been there my whole life. I was born in New Jersey so most of my family is back there. Just like you and your family, my family visits New Jersey in the summers. It is such a good time visiting family. I also have siblings. I have three sisters and two brothers. I am the oldest out of all my siblings.Another thing about me is that I am majoring in secondary education and math. I plan on becoming a high school math teacher.
